Julia "Judy" Blanche Burdett

Julia “Judy” Blanche Burdett, 84, of LaGrange, GA passed away August 28, 2015. She was born August 22, 1931 in Dunwoody, GA to the late William Candler Burdett and Mary Hilderbrand Burdett. Ms. Burdett was a long time active member of LaGrange First Baptist Church on the Square and the Bethany Sunday School Class. She was retired from LaGrange College as Associate Professor of Social Work, and a graduate of Brewton Parker Jr. College (AA), Tift College (BA), Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (MRE) and Tulane University (MSW). Some of the organizations she was affiliated with include the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board in Savannah, The Savannah Baptist Center, State of Georgia Youth Development Center in Atlanta, Youth Development Center for Girls in Macon, GA and the Polly Hutchinson Mission Group.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Jerry Abee and Barbara Westbrook, brothers, Oswald Burdett and Phillip Burdett, brother-in-law Christopher Abee and niece Debra Westbrook.

Survivors include her brother-in-law Gene Westbrook and his sister Faye Westbrook, sisters-in-law Micki Burdett and Susie Rosser, her nieces, Gina Barber (Joe), Linda Gail Harry, Brenda Millsapp (Jerry), Shelli Summers (Ricky), Brittany Burdett, nephew Candler Burdett, many great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, other relatives and beloved friends.

A private family committal service was held in Arlington Cemetery in Sandy Springs, GA on September 4, 2015 with Dr. Paul Baxter and Paul Blair officiating.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday September 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church on the Square in LaGrange, GA with Dr. Paul Baxter, Pastor Cade Farris and Reverend Paul Blair officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Ms. Burdett requested donations be made to LaGrange First Baptist Church on the Square (Missions), LaGrange College or to a charity of your choice.
