Lynda Hutchins Brock was born in Auburn, Alabama, but grew up in Hapeville, Georgia. Lynda was best defined by her love of music, teaching, and people. The daughter of a band director and pianist, she grew up with a deep love and passion for music that led her all over the country and world throughout her life. She gained a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Georgia and was a proud member of the Redcoat Band. She earned a Master’s in Music Education from Georgia State University. She served with the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra for over a decade and played weddings and events with violinist Sam Lee and Tessa Scanlon. She did all of this work in addition to serving as the Choir Director for First Presbyterian Church LaGrange.
Lynda was a decorated teacher who served over 30 years in Henry and Troup County school systems and remains venerated by both students and peers. She was deeply proud of her students and celebrated their successes with unadulterated joy. She was particularly proud to have taught members of Collective Soul in their youth.
She was a compassionate, loving person who had no limits to showing her care. Indeed, she often turned a grocery trip into a meet and greet, as she knew nearly everyone in the store. She was the beloved wife to Joff Brock, the mother of two children, Ansley Cox and Tyler Brock, and the proud grandmother of Charlie and Perry Cox and numerous foster grandchildren. She was direct and honest in her affection of others and maintained close and loving relationships with her high school ya-yas throughout her life. Lynda adored being with people and engaged in every opportunity to do so from softball, to supper club, to tennis, to mah-jong, to water aerobics; she was always out and about spending time with people. To know her was to be with someone who took an active, genuine interest in every person-soon-to-be-friend that she met.
Lynda Brock was light and energy given physical form. We are poorer for her passing, though blessed to know she is at rest and at peace with her Lord and with those friends and loved ones who have passed on before her.
