Mary was born July 18, 1934, in LaGrange, GA to the late Hovie Lee Baker and Annie Lizzie Murphy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David L. Phillips and daughter, Teresa Shelnutt.
Mary was a long-time member of East LaGrange Baptist Church and spent most of her career with Walmart where she eventually retired.
She is survived by sons, Alan (Debbie) Shelnutt and Kevin (Cassie) Shelnutt; step children, Steven Phillips, Deborah McIntyre, Connie Holtzworth and Patti Fowler; grandchildren, Josh (Brooke) Shelnutt, Justin (Danielle) Shelnutt, Jackson (Erin) Shelnutt, Cody Ivey, Deana (Jeremy) Wisener, Caleb (Caiti) Shelnutt and Stephen Shelnutt; loving caregiver and step granddaughter, Angie (Thomas) Phillips; seventeen great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM Monday, February 9, 2026, in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in LaGrange, GA. The Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 PM. The committal will be held at Restlawn Memory Gardens in LaGrange, GA following the service. Rev. Allen Smith will be officiating the services.
In Lieu of flowers, donation are requested to be made to East LaGrange Baptist Church in her honor.
