Dear Sandra,

It seems just like yesterday that I embarked on a new journey I have been on. To a new place filled with diffrent sights and people. On January 16, 2016 I met a part of you which is your daughter Charity Lynn Komm and I heard your voice. You told me to call you mom even though we have never laid eyes on one another. When I heard that at first it was weriod, but very Welcoming. When we finally met you in your home in Georgia you gave me a hug and welcomed me into the family even though Charity and I weren't Married. You gave just as much love for me than my mother. When Charity and I got married you called me son and even before than. I wanna thank you for all the love, wisdom, and pinochle skills you have taught me Most of all thank you for the wonderful woman you made that i call my wife Charity. Love you mama see you in the after life. For journeys around Georgia or where ever we went will not be forgotten,but will live on and now where ever Charity and I go our family will remain whole

Among my earliest memories are the handful of visits that my brother and I had with Sandy and Paula as children.  Uncle Paul was with the railroad and moved a lot, so we only saw them at family reunions or at short visits on vacation.  I cherish the childhood memories of making tents  from sheets in their basement and the endless laughter we shared.  We were separated and out of contact for more than 50 years, which ended only a couple of months ago.  Through the kindness of our cousin, Dixie Reed, we were put back in contact.  We had several long conversations on the telephone in recent weeks.  She told me about her ministry and her family.  It was so wonderful to hear how proud she was of Fred and her children and grandchildren and the love she held for every member of her family.  I was most impressed that she opened a non-denominational church, something that our ancestor Richard Burgess left the comfort of Maryland to do in Falls Township, Hocking County, Ohio two centuries ago.  I am sure that, just as his Burgess Meeting House became known as a place of worship for people of all faiths, Sandy would welcome anyone to hers.  I thank God for the undeserved grace that allowed us to catch up after all of these years, for the opportunity to share with her the love and pride that I have for my own family here so far away in South Africa and my small contributions to the work of Nelson Mandela.  I pray that everyone she touched will focus on the memories of what she has given them as a salve to the pain of what they have lost.  She and all of your are in our prayers.  God bless.
