
Mr. Tidwell was born March 8, 1937 in Marion County, AL, son of the late James Elmon Tidwell and Margaret Mills Tidwell. He was a member of East Vernon Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher. Mr. Tidwell was a machine tool technology instructor for Albany Tech, Troup Tech and West Georgia Technical College, where he retired after 30 years. Mr. Tidwell was a self taught musician, avid fisherman and wood craftsman. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Opal Coughran, Bernice Duckworth, Reba Lawrence, and Norma Shiver.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Carol Tidwell of LaGrange; daughters, Dana T. Long (Gary) of Albany, GA and Lisa T. Booth (Bill) of LaGrange; son, Greg Tidwell (Christy) of LaGrange; grandchildren, Becky, Julie, James, Lindsey, Joshua, and Chelsea; great grandchildren, Elana, Daniel, and Bennett; sisters, Grace T. Aultman, Betty T. Nelms, and Glenda T. Robbins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. today, January 13, 2014 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Reverend Don Ellison officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens. The gathering of family and friends will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in memory of Mr. William R. Tidwell.
