Carolyn Wattner Ettinger was born in Houston, TX on March 7, 1944 and passed away peacefully in Katy, TX December 7, 2020. She was born to Woodrow and Zenda (Weber) Wattner and lived most of her life in Westlake and Lake Charles.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Travis; and her husband, Marvin Ettinger, M.D.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Earl Wattner of Westlake; her son, Greg Savant of Pearland, TX.; and her daughter, Angela Savant Davis and husband Sean of Katy, TX.
She was proud of her four grandchildren, Zachary and Garrett Savant born to Greg, and Sean Christian and Alexandra born to Angela and Sean.
Carolyn graduated from Westlake High School and from McNeese with her BA in Elementary Education and a Masters of Education. She followed her passion and became a teacher in 1968. She taught for 44 years in Calcasieu Parish School district where her mission was to help her students make a connection between the importance of education and their future paths. She was a firm and consistent influence in the lives of many people. She was honored to have been selected Teacher of the Year by her peers at Bell City High School.
Carolyn had a servant’s heart as evidenced by her many volunteer activities. She sponsored 4-H Club for over 35 years, she organized Veterans’ Day programs and coordinated United Way Campaigns. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa where she served as president of the Nu Chapter along with holding several state chair positions for the sorority. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran church where she served six years on the Council and was appointed by the Bishop to serve on the TX-LA Commission of Missions. Her accomplishments are many and we simply can’t list them all.
Visitation services will be under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, on Saturday, December 19, 2020 beginning at 10:00am until the time of services. Funeral Services will be held in the funeral home 1:00pm presided by Pastor Tim Norris of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
