Jo Ann Nunez went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 13, 2024. She was a fine Christian woman who touched the hearts of many throughout the area and across the country. She was a nurse for many years, a fabulous and generous cook and a community volunteer. She served on various boards and was a member of the Eastern Stars. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, and true friend to many.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Voelkel and Claudia Dyson; husband, James Nunez; brothers, Brent and Morty Dyson; sister, Eula Dyson; great granddaughter, Alyson Breaux; grandchild Alexis Jamie Nunez and step-brother, Edward Shipperbottom.
She is survived by her son, Donny Nunez (Cathy); daughter, Ruby Miller (J.A.); grandchildren, Kristi Strong (Josh), Joshua Dupuie (Santana), Claudia LeJeune (Jarod); nine great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; nephew, Abner Wyatt; step-siblings, Dennis Shipperbottom (Sun), Lynn Logan (Ken), Steven Shipperbottom (Trish), Debby Smith, Tammy Maddock and Nita Slavinski (Randy); sister-in-law, Wilma Lee Carriveau; brother-in-law, John Urankar; and numerous other relatives.
Special thanks to: her caregiver Theresa Johnson, Dr. Peggy Allemand, Dr. Alex Courville, Dr. Matt Courville, Dr. Edward Ughovwa and all medical professionals and devoted friends who assisted in her care. Sincere appreciation is extended to everyone who was kind to her during her life.

The family will welcome relatives and friends at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Sunday, August 18, 2024 beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 8:00 a.m. with a funeral service to be held at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery. Pastor Wade Carroll will officiate at the services.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Dupuie, Josh Strong, Christian Breaux, Mason Dupuie, David Shipperbottom, and Abner Wyatt. Honorary pallbearers will be John Uranka, Laura Doxey and Kerry Woods.
