John D. Hoag, a loving son, husband, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on July 17, 2025. John, or Doug as some knew him, 69, was born on December 11,1955 at the Sheldon Memorial Hospital in Albion, MI to John and Yvonne (Chappel) Hoag. He grew up in Springport and later moved to Saranac with his parents and sister, Kathy. 1974 was a big year for him – he graduated from Saranac
High School and married his wife, Tamara (Williams) Hoag. He was very patriotic and joined the army in 1976, but to his disappointment had to be medically discharged because of complications from a leg injury caused by a car accident in his teens.
He was a hard worker, often working long hours to support his family. He loved to hunt, fish, and watch his daughters and grandchildren play sports. He even travelled all over upper Michigan and the U.P. to watch 2 grandsons play football (often in freezing rain) and run/throw track. He loved going to the VFW and talking with friends. And he loved being the official taste tester of Randy and Mary Frederiksen’s homemade beer and salsa.
He loved his family deeply and is survived by his mother, Yvonne; wife, Tammy; daughter, Nichole (Matthew) Weitting and their 2 sons, Derred and Aidan; Jaimie (Curtis) Blair and their children, Kayla, Christopher, and Tucker; Kristy (Kipp) Heydenburg and children, Ryelee, Cassidy, Grady, Keith, and Waverly; Brittany (Sean) Satterly and children, Drake, Deegan, Dayne, Emerson, and Brezlyn. He was especially proud of his great-granddaughters, Sunnie Lynn and MaeLynn Nicole; sister, Kathy Trierweiler; niece, Kami Trierweiler; niece, Erika (Allan) Wolf; nephew, Travis (Jessi) Trierweiler; nephew, John (Allison) Trierweiler. He was preceded in death by his father, John Hoag, and nephew, Shane Trierweiler.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, July 26 from 12-2 at 9272 Peddler Lake Rd in Clarksville. Please come and share your memories with family!
