On September 2, 1961, he married Sara Jo Anne Livermore. Together they raised their two daughters, Michelle and Stephanie.
In 1966, Larry was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served for two years. Upon leaving the Army, Larry worked as a carpenter and general contractor in the Lake Odessa area with his good friend Bill Bulling. After several years in construction, he left the trade to farm alongside his dad and brothers. Larry had a gift for fixing anything—whether farm machinery, household repairs, or projects for family and friends. Later, he bought L&R Glass and Screen Repair, where he also installed a movie rental shop in the front of the business. He spent his days framing and matting pictures, fixing windows and screens, and enjoying the craft of working with his hands.
Larry had a meticulous eye for detail, especially in woodworking. He designed and built projects that not only served a purpose but made life more convenient and beautiful. He had an appreciation for the small things—down to the perfect grain of wood. Larry also loved gardening, growing the most uncommon and unique trees and vegetables, but he was best known by his grandkids for his strawberries and grapes. He found joy in nature, camping, and collecting antiques, especially those with ties to Lake Odessa.
A patient and selfless man, Larry was the go-to person for advice, help with a project, or simply a listening ear. He never turned anyone away and was known for his calm, collected approach to any challenge. His top advice? “Nothing can’t be fixed.” Whether guiding a friend, helping with a build, or offering thoughtful advice, he always found a way to help. Larry never told anyone they were wrong, and he never told his grandkids “no.” He had a notorious grin, especially when surrounded by the people he loved.
Larry took great pride in his family and treasured the moments spent together. He loved hosting happy hours at his basement bar, pizza parties, and impromptu driveway chats with visitors. A devoted grandfather, he never missed a single sporting event, always capturing moments with his camera. Even though he wasn’t fond of his hearing aids, he was always listening—fully present and engaged in the lives of those he loved.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 62 1/2 years, Sara Cobb; his daughters, Michelle Cobb and Stephanie (Steve) Hanson; grandchildren, Megan (Thadd) Levine, Jacob (Cosby) Hanson, Katelyn (Jake) Eberhardt, Colt Endsley, and Clay Endsley; and great-grandson, Reid Hanson. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Swarthout of Spring Lake; sister, Carrie (Pete) Yon of Wakefield, MI; sisters-in-law, Mary James, Robin (Don) Ainsworth, Becky Livermore, Ester Livermore, Colleen Cobb, Yvonne Cobb; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Laura and Robert Cobb Sr.; brothers, Ronald and Robert Cobb Jr.; sister, Ruth Jean (Jeanie) Edgel; brothers-in-law, Pat James, Tom Livermore, Mick Livermore, Scott Livermore, Bernie Edgel, and Larry Swarthout; and sisters-in-law, Karen Livermore and Lynda Cobb.
