Norma A Salazar

Norma “Fifi” Alejos “Norma Jean” Salazar, age 71, of Lake Odessa, MI passed on Sunday, November 29, 2015 in Grand Rapids, MI.  She was born on June 6, 1944 to Jose Mario and Jane Maria (Gonzalez) Vela in Laredo, TX.  Norma married Juan “Johnny” R. Salazar on October 19, 1963.  They were blessed with 52 years of marriage and 2 sons, Edward and Roger Salazar along with 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.  Johnny lovingly referred to her as “Norma Jean”.

Norma worked for the State of Michigan and then as a homemaker.  She loved her family, with her grandchildren being very special.  She loved her music, basketball, baseball, sweets and couldn’t miss her soap operas.  Her favorites were The Young and Restless and The Bold and The Beautiful. 

She will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Johnny; her sons Edward and Roger; her grandchildren; sisters, Irma Galaviz of Portland, MI, Linda (Pablo) Salazar of Lake Odessa, MI, Rosie (Pepe) Zendejas of Lake Odessa, MI; brothers, Joe (Pat) Vela of Wacousta, MI, Ruben Vela of Lake Odessa, MI Frank (Pam) Vela of Grand Ledge, MI, John Vela of Lake Odessa; brothers in law Bacilio (Inga) Salazar Jr., Margo (Mayo) Salazar, Quirino (Lupe) Salazar, Mark Salazar, Barney Salazar; sisters in law Felice (Fred) Vasquez, Sofia (Sal) Rodrigues, Bruna Salazar, Romana (Rudy) Aguilar, Adelina (Larry) Shaneck, Gloria (Roy) Valdez, Kate Salazar and Calla Salazar.  She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Mary Vela; sister Mary Lou Martinez; parents in law Bacilio and Gregoria Salazar; brothers in law Mario Salazar and Domingo Salazar and Felix Galaviz.

Visitation for Norma will be at Koops Funeral Chapel, Lake Odessa, MI on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm.  Services will be held at Koops Funeral Chapel on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 11:00 am.  Interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa, MI.  Online condolences can be left at www.koopsfc.com
