Dr. Aaron Christopher Pohl, a beloved member of the medical community and an adventurous soul, passed away on June 4, 2024, at his home in Lakewood, Colorado. Aaron's life was a testament to dedication, service, and passion, born on January 2, 1968, in Indiana to Stephen Pohl and Carol Schwenssen Pohl.
Aaron's upbringing was marked by the nomadic lifestyle of a military family, as his father served in the Navy and Air Force. Despite the constant change, Aaron embraced new experiences and cultures enthusiastically, which he also applied to his schoolwork. Acknowledging Aaron’s educational excellence, he was inducted by America’s most prestigious academic honor society, Phi Beta Kappa at Trinity College in San Antonio, Texas, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. Aaron’s academic career was filled with many honors including the military’s comprehensive four-year award from the Health Professions Scholarship Program for medical school. Aaron's dedication to his profession was unwavering, as he continued to pursue his education with vigor and achieved his doctorate at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He then embarked on a journey of service to his country in the United States Air Force as a Captain. Demonstrating his commitment to the health and well-being of his fellow service members, he served as a flight surgeon including a tour in Kuwait during Desert Storm. Aaron achieved the rank of Major before transitioning to civilian life.
Beyond his medical career, Aaron lived life to the fullest, embodying an adventurous spirit that inspired all who knew him. He loved exciting weather and was an outdoors enthusiast, so after his military service, Colorado became his home. He found solace and exhilaration on the ski slopes of Breckenridge, tackling the most challenging double black diamond runs with skill and joy. Music was another passion of Aaron's, providing him with moments of reflection and inspiration--after his rebellious teen years of Ozzy Osbourne and AC/DC! He cherished time spent at the shooting range, honing his marksmanship, and in the kitchen, where he crafted delicious meals, including his outstanding split pea soup and delicious Asian entrees.
Aaron's warm personality and zest for life touched all who knew him. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and colleagues. He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Carol, and his grandparents. Aaron is survived by his father, Stephen; stepmother, Janet; sisters Molly (James) and Leslie (Jordan); brothers Russell and Mitchell (Veronika); niece Grace; nephews Alexander and Jaxson; and a host of extended family members and friends. Above all else, love each other deeply. 1 Peter 4:8
