Frank Bruce Greenberg was a man of extraordinary character and diverse passions, whose life touched many in meaningful ways. His unexpected passing on August 9, 2024, in Lakewood, Colorado, marks the end of a vibrant and impactful journey. Born on February 13, 1952, in the Bronx, New York, Frank's early years in a traditional Jewish household were marked by an enduring sense of connection, even with the world of JLo, a fellow Bronx native.
Frank’s path took him from the Bronx to California, where he pursued higher education at a Catholic college, earning a BA in Psychology. This was a pivotal moment in his life, leading him to a career in law enforcement. Frank served as a Jefferson County Sheriff in Colorado for 30 years, retiring in 2014. His career was not just a job but a testament to his dedication and service.
His life was full of varied interests and talents. Frank was passionate about teaching, firearms, and salsa dancing, the latter of which he shared with his fourth wife, Nonna. Together, they enjoyed many adventures, and Frank often referred to them as "Lucky number 13." His love for tennis, art, and photography highlighted his multifaceted personality, while his role as a family handyman and car enthusiast showed his practical side and his appreciation for the finer things in life.
Frank was known for his exceptional ability to connect with dogs, earning him the title of a “certified dog whisperer” among his family. He and Nonna shared a love for travel, frequently visiting Mexico and enjoying recent trips to Hawaii. Food was another significant aspect of his life—whether it was preparing his famous fish tacos or savoring green chili at Santiago’s, Frank’s enthusiasm for culinary experiences was boundless.
Frank is survived by his loving wife, Nonna Greenberg; his sister, Meri (Matt) Frauwirth; his children, Tony and Anton, Derek, Rachel (Donny), and Dana; his grandchildren, Cassie, Emily, Logan, and Lewis; his Godson/nephew, Eric; his nephew Kenny; his niece, Stacy; and his extended work family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and his beloved dog, Bandit.
A memorial gathering will celebrate Frank's remarkable life on Friday, August 23, at 5 PM at Advantage Runyan Stevenson Chapel in Lakewood, CO, with a reception to follow. Frank’s diverse interests, his love for people, and his enduring spirit will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
