

Leona was born on August 1, 1930 to Emil and Mary Neiman of Herick, South Dakota. she was one of eleven children. Her father like so many other folks during the Great Depression lost his money and farm. Leona met Charles Rutherford and were married on January 9th, 1947.
For the most part, Leona was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She worked for awhile at Wright McGill making fishing lures. Some years later in 1983, Leona went to work for Volunteer of America. She worked at ordering, heating meals and serving out the meals for 23 years. During that time she and dad would go down to King Soopers and pick up day old bakery goods. They would haul the goods back to their meal site for their meal site clients. Leona retired when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. In 2014, Leona sold her house and moved in with Jim and Diane. In October of 2018 she then moved into a memory care facility at Brookdale where she was at at the time of her fall. Leona is survived by her son James (Diane) Rutherford, two grandsons; Danny and bobby, two great granddaughters; Randi and Jordyn, one great great granddaughter Sarah and sisters Mary Hansen and Maxine Neiman. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Ervin, Harry, Vernon, Marvin, sisters; Opal, Irene, Della and Viola.
Her interests besides family and friends was crocheting, macramé, dancing, fishing and camping.
