July 16, 1983 was a special day for Matthew and Dena Garcia as they welcomed their first son, Matthew A. Garcia, Jr., in Denver, Colorado. Matthew was a Denver Native, growing up with his brothers, Michael, Edward, Nathan, Jacob, and sister, Isabel in Denver. He attended Horizon High School and Empire Beauty School. Matthew loved to do hair, especially cutting and coloring it. His French braid technique was slightly lacking, but he was always proud to try.
When Matthew was younger he welcomed a son, Gabriel. That was his first experience as a father, and he was overjoyed. For the next 14 years he made sure to play with his son outside, one of his favorite places, and show him why loving the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies was a good thing. He met his wife Shana through a mutual friend. They married and had daughters, Denalynae and Deztyni. Gabriel and Matthew now had two more outdoor playmates and his joy about his daughters soared, while his French braid skills were partially better.
Matthew loved to see how things worked, he liked to take things apart and put them back together when they weren't working. He loved being outdoors and he generally loved people. The latter two things meshed really well together when anyone wanted to do anything outside. He was a family man, who really, really loved his kids and his wife. No matter what went down in any situation he always told his wife "until death do us part." She was his other half, and he hers.
Being around Matthew was like being in sunshine. His smile lit up a room, his laughter was contagious, and his love outshined even the worst situation. Matthew was helpful - and kind, something sorely missed in the world today. He would meet you in the grocery store and know quickly how to help you, Matthew never met a stranger.
Suddenly the light of many people's life was extinguished when Matthew passed away on June 13th in Denver, Colorado. He is preceded in death by, and joins, his father, Matthew A. Garcia Sr.; paternal grandfather, Orlando; maternal grandmother, Agatha; Godparents, Ernie and Elizabeth; his uncle, Frank; and his beloved cousin, Clark. He leaves behind his wife, Shana; son, Gabriel; daughters, Denalynae and Deztyni; mother, Dena (Eugene), brothers, Michael (Jessica), Edward, Nathan, Jacob; sister, Isabel; grandmother, Maxine; step-father, Glenn (Colleen); and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Matthew will be deeply missed.
Matthew will be celebrated on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 2:30PM at Advantage Runyan Stevenson Chapel in Lakewood, Colorado. A viewing will be 30 minutes prior to and 45 minutes following his celebration.
