Alice C. Gearl Wendell

Alice C. Wendell, age 87, of Lakewood, NJ, passed away at her residence on Thursday, March 7, 2013. She was born in Newark, NJ on November 30, 1925 and was the daughter of the late Magdalene and Leon T. Gearl. Mrs. Wendell was a former resident of Maplewood and South Amboy, NJ before moving to the Original Leisure Village section of Lakewood over 19 years ago. Mrs. Wendell was a retired nurse who had worked at Orange Memorial Hospital in Orange, NJ. Wife of the late Ernest J. Wendell and sister of the late Leon Gearl, she is survived by her two children, Richard Wendell of Lakewood, NJ and Judith C. Hoffer and her husband George of Toms River, NJ; three siblings, Charles Gearl, Madeline Payne and her husband Al, and Patricia Kenyon and her husband Richard; four grandchildren, Robert Wendell, Jaclyn Marottoli, Patrick Hoffer, and Samantha Hoffer; a great grandchild, Madison Marottoli; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the D’Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701. Her funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home following the viewing. The Rev. Paul Engle OFM will officiate. Cremation will be private.
