Benjamin Coombs Doherty, Sr.

Benjamin Coombs Doherty, Sr., age 90, of Toms River, NJ passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at home. Benjamin was born December 10, 1931 in Taunton, Massachusetts as the son of Marjorie Dean(Coombs) and William Walton Doherty. Benjamin was a long time resident of Waldwick, NJ prior to moving to the Greenbriar Woodlands section of Toms River, NJ 25 years ago. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. Benjamin was a graduate of Tufts University in Medford, MA and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. He was an avid gardener and an aerospace enthusiast. Benjamin was an active parishioner of St. Justin the Martyr Church in Toms River, NJ. Benjamin is survived by his spouse of 67 years, Carol A. (Gibbons) Doherty ; his six children, Benjamin Coombs Doherty, Jr. (Amy); Karen Marie Mueller (John); Michael William Doherty (Lynne); Brian Joseph Doherty (Mary); Anne Marie Crann (Leonard); and Mark Peter Doherty (Maryann); his 18 grandchildren, Brenna Doherty, Caroline Doherty, Grace Doherty, Kaitlyn Mueller, Kevin Mueller, Allison Mueller, Shannon Doherty, Michael Doherty, Rachel Doherty, Keith Doherty, Colleen Healy (Tom), Austin Crann, Owen Crann, Hope Crann, Reagan Crann, Madison Doherty, Meaghan Doherty, Matthew Doherty; a great grandchild, Noah Healy; and two step-grandchildren, Kara Gallagher and Meghan Gallagher. Benjamin was preceded in death by his sister Joanne Schuttauf and his brother James Doherty. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family. A funeral service for Benjamin will be held Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Ocean County Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 1722 Silverton Road, Toms River, NJ 08755.
