Craig Robert Lawson, age 31, of Lakewood, NJ, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2016. Craig was born on April 23, 1985 in Toms River, NJ. He graduated from St. Rose High School in 2003 before attending Rowan University in 2004. Prior to his 13th birthday, Craig received both a Black-Belt martial arts certification and Advanced Open Water Diving certification. He was an expert marksman with both a pistol and rifle, and he excelled in competitive shooting. Fondly remembered for being charismatic and having a larger than life personality, he was the life of the party and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His kindness and loving nature made him a friend to all who knew him. He was a truly compassionate person with a desire to help people. Craig made more of his short time here on earth than many others do in a lifetime. Craig was formerly employed by Lakewood Country Club, Lakewood Park Security, and the Lakewood Department of Public Works, before becoming a member of the Lakewood Police Department in April 2014. He is survived by his parents Robert Lawson and Janet Loguirato Lawson; his aunts and uncles, Dr. William Lawson, Dr. Dona Hills; Dr. Raef Lawson, Flo Lawson, Lois Lawson, Anna Ascione Hardman and Michael Hardman, Joe Berardo; sisters, Lorraine and Veronica O'Connor; and many cousins. Visitation will be open to the public on Sunday, August 21, 2016 from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701. His funeral services will be conducted privately for his family and close friends, and will follow with a private committal in St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood, NJ. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to charity of the donor's choice or flowers will be accepted.

I wish I was able to come, but I am in Germany and there just wasn't a way to do it on such short notice. Craig was an amazing friend, and would tell you what he really thought and what you needed to hear- even if you weren't ready for it. I'll always remember his smile, his robust laugh and his ability to turn any get together with more than three people into a party. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time.
