George A. Zoeller, 94, of Lakewood died on Saturday, February 21, 2021 at Sunrise of Jackson. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Matawan, N.J. for 34 years before moving to the Fairways at Lake Ridge community in Lakewood in 1998. He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Lake Church, Lakewood, N.J.
George was a design engineer in naval architecture and marine joiner construction for 45 years, including the design of the US Navy Hospital Ships Comfort and Mercy, the construction of the SS Independence and Constitution passenger vessels before retiring in 1989. He was a 50-year member of the Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers and the Navy League. George was also a member of a number of committees and clubs at the Fairway community.
He was pre-deceased by his wife of over 64 years, Kathleen, in February of last year and his sister, Evelyn Toner in May 2020.
George is survived by his son, Robert and daughter-in-law Laura Zoeller of Jackson, N.J. and three grandchildren, Arielle, Philip, and Christian.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Holy Family Church, East County Line Road, Lakewood, N.J.
Cremation and the interment of his cremated remains at St. Mary of the Lake Mary Queen of Peace Mausoleum, Lakewood, N.J. will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society in George's name.
