Joseph was born in Ashland, KY on February 8, 1926, and he was the son of the late Mildred (Kaehl) and Alfred McCullough. He was a raised in Ashland and had been a resident of Dallas, TX, Los Angeles, CA, and New York, NY, before moving to the Jersey Shore. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II, and had served in both the Atlantic and Pacific campaigns. Joseph retired from his position as a school bus driver with the Brick Township Board of Education. He attended the Bayside Chapel in Barnegat, NJ. Joseph was a motivational speaker for area nursing homes. He was a talented semi-pro baseball pitcher who never recorded a loss, and he was an avid golfer.
Husband of the late Genevieve McCullough; brother of the late Mack and George McCullough, Joseph is survived by his children, Joseph McCullough, II. And his wife Terry, Mike McCullough, Maryellen Magley and her husband Joe, Daniel McCullough and his wife Susan, and Patrick McCullough and his wife Nancy; 10 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 3 & 5 to 7 p.m. at the D’Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701. His funeral service will be 12 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the BG William C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
