Michael M. Cubeiro

Michael M Cubeiro, a very special husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 27 surrounded by his wife Maggie, daughter Germaine and son-in-law Randy. His life was defined by hard work, responsibility and dedication and love to his family and friends.

Michael was born and raised in the lower east side of Manhattan and moved to Staten Island as a newlywed and new father before the building of the Verrazano Bridge. He began his career as a New York City firefighter and rose to the rank of Lieutenant. He was very proud of his service to his beloved city and would tell you those were his finest days. After serving for twenty years, he retired from the Fire Department and moved on to work at the International Longshoreman’s Association for twenty plus years. After retiring while living in Staten Island, he relocated to Lakewood, NJ and settled into the Fairways Community where he resided for the last twenty-four years.

Michael is predeceased in death by his first wife, Florence Cubeiro. Presently, he is survived by his wife, Maggie Waters-Cubeiro, his daughter, Germaine Tartacoff and her husband, Randy Tartacoff, his son, Michael Cubeiro, and his grandchildren, Ali and Julian (Jessie) Tartacoff, and Ryan and Brandon Cubeiro, his loving sister, Gioia Cubeiro-Reischert as well as extended family and friends.

Beyond work, Michael enjoyed skiing, golfing, cheering on the Mets, cooking delicious Italian specialty foods, and relaxing at home with his wife. He was an avid Pinochle and Poker player and became involved in the Travel Club, the Men’s Club, the Amici Club, the Shamrock Club, and playing Bocce.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 1, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at D’Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 2, beginning at 10:30am at St. Luke’s Church, 1674 Old Freehold Rd, Toms River, NJ 08755.
