

Thomas Gerard Hamill, known to his loved ones as Tom, passed away on June 14, 2023, at the age of 90 in Toms River, New Jersey. Tom was born on April 12, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, to David and Ellen Hamill. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, David, Henry, and Jack.
Tom was witty with a great sense of humor. He was a loving husband to Margaret, his wife of 63 years, and a devoted father to his children, Thomas (Christina), John (Deirdre), and Diane (Kenneth) Silvia. He was a devoted grandfather to Thomas (Jeanine), Kenneth (Ashley), Christopher (Kimberly), Timothy, Michael (Laura), Caitlin (Michael) Melendez, and Alyssa (Luke) Greif. He was also a proud grandfather to seven great-grandchildren.
Tom is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister-in-laws, Florence, Nancy, Bernice Johnson, Adele (Peter) Frangenberg, Mary Donovan, Marcie Power and brother-in-law Maurice (Anne)Powers, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Tom attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, for his primary education and then went on to graduate from Manual Training High School in New York, New York. He worked for the Board of Education for the City of New York for over 30 years and retired in April 1992 with the title of Stationary Engineer. Tom was a proud member of Local Union 891 Operating Engineers.
After his retirement, Tom and his wife moved from Staten Island where they had lived for30 years to the Lake Ridge community in Toms River, New Jersey.
Tom was a man of faith and worshipped at St. Mary of the Lake in Lakewood, New Jersey. He enjoyed traveling, bowling, shuffleboard, and playing card games with his family. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and a passionate baseball fan, beginning with the Brooklyn Dodgers and later transferring his allegiance to the New York Mets.
