

Cherished Memories of Brenda Jean Gillespie Simmons Brenda Jean Gillespie Simmons was born June 7, 1960 in Aberdeen, Mississippi to the late Hosea Gillespie, Sr. and Willie Ann Love Gillespie.Brenda accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Zion Spring Missionary Baptist Church in Okolona, Mississippi. Brenda attended public school in Crescent City, Florida where she resided for most of her early life. She graduated from the Putnam County Public School System in 1978. On June 7, 1979, Brenda married Ronald Simmons, Sr. and to that union three children were born.Upon moving to Houston, TX in 2008, she became a member of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. She was passionate about her commitment to God. Brenda enjoyed caring for children at the family owned daycare. She loved dogs and was especially fond of ‘Nala’. Eating fresh fried fish was one of her favorite pass times. As a volunteer with a community outreach program, Brenda would plant gardens and cared for animals at a shelter. Brenda was preceded in eternal rest by her parents Hosea Gillespie Sr. and Willie Ann Love Gillespie, and brother, Wallace Gillespie. Brenda departed this life on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. She will truly be missed and the life she lived speaks for her. Those who will forever cherish her memories are her Spouse: Ronald Simmons, Sr. Children: Ronald (Dana) Simmons, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; Andrea Simmons and Marquis (Joy) Simmons of Houston, TX. Sister: Mildred (Paul) Laury of Richmond, TX. Brothers: Hosea (Bernice) Gillespie, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA; Horace (Chevelle) Gillespie of League City, TX; Dennis (Bridgett) Gillespie of Pearland, TX; Kenneth (Kimberly) Gillespie of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Timothy (Lisa) Gillespie of Cincinnati, OH. Four grandchildren, Gavin Simmons and Shiya Simmons of Atlanta, GA; Maddie Simmons and Marquis Simmons, Jr. of Houston, TX and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Services will be held Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, 3824 Wheeler Ave. in Houston with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM followed by services at 11:00 AM. burial will follow at Houston Memorial Gardens
