Carolyn Ann Simmons began life's journey on May 11, 1951 in League City, Texas. She was the sixth child born to James, Sr. and Gertrude Simmons, who both preceded her in death. Carolyn grew up on what's known as the family street "Hobbs Road" in League City, and was a 1969 graduate of Clear Creek High School. Carolyn accepted Jesus Christ as was baptized at an early age. She was a member of the Greater Mount Carmel Baptist Church. She served as a choir member and mission member for many years, until failing health no longer allowed her to actively serve. Carolyn was a very hard worker, she worked for many years for the Omega Company at NASA Johnson Space Center and the Clear Creek Independent School District until her retirement. After these jobs, she found her most fulfilling employment, when she accepted the position of caregiver to the children of Larry and Dr. Linda Neely-Shelmire. This assignment proved to be a true labor of love. Carolyn loved Joshua and Christian "her boys" with all her heart and soul. She was truly devoted to these boys and Dr. Neely in every way. Anyone who knew her, knew about her boys because there were a part of every conversation she had with anyone. She was as proud of them as any mother or grandmother could be. Carolyn was dedicated and devoted to caring for Joshua and Christian until her health would no longer allow her to actively care for them. She still maintained a close and loving relationship with them as part of their family and them considered her family until her death. Although Carolyn did not have any biological children, she was Godmother to many children over the years: Kerry DeHart, Eddie Simmons, Jr., Tranisha Jenkins, DeShae Gray and Bridgette De Santiago. She was also very close and dedicated to all her nieces and nephews, always showing kindness making certain that everyone had gifts for birthdays and special occasions. She as known very dearly to all of them as "Abby". She was as loving and devoted to all of her Godchildren, nieces and nephews as if they were her own children, especially Rachel. Carolyn was well known in the communities of Dickinson and League City. She had many long time friends and neighbors. Although she was not able to get out and visit friends she maintained as active relationship with everyone "via telephone". She kept up with all current events within families, friends, church members and even people outside the community. Carolyn's life's journey ended on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City. She leaves to cherish memories of her life: her devoted niece, Rachel Nolly (Keith); two sisters, Lela Ball of Dickinson and Judy Simmons of Houston; five brothers, James Simmons Jr. of League City, Eddie Lee Simmons, Sr. (Dorothy), Frederick Simmons, Melvin Simmons and Michael Simmons (Elizabeth) all of Dickinson; special devoted cousins, Shirley Davis, Stacey Guillory, Nellie Jean Roberson and Geraldine Roberson; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
