For God has given so much through one beautiful life, Lucile Dickerson Dobbins. Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great- grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt and cousin was born on a glorious day, June 13, 1925 in Fayette County, Texas to Isaac "Ike" and Rebecca Dickerson. Being raised in a Christian home, her early spiritual journey was nourished and she accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and was baptized. Love, morals and integrity were instilled within Lucile at a young age. She was educated in the public schools of Fayette County where she was a Spelling Bee Champion and played basketball. God placed a special gift within Lucile and that gift was evident throughout her life. She infused the lives of countless others with her warmth, generosity and kindness. As a young woman Lucile was united in Holy Matrimony to her hometown beau, Edgar H. Dobbins. This wondrous union would span some 48 years. They were the proud parents of five beautiful daughters. Lucile was most concerned about the spiritual welfare of her children, so she and husband exposed and spotlighted Jesus constantly at home. In 1950 seeking a better life for his family they relocated to Texas City. Keeping with their church covenant, the family united with Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, Reverend McWashington. She worked faithfully with the various departments of the church. After her husband, Reverend E. H. Dobbins was called to pastor Ashwood Baptist Church, Big Spring Hill Baptist Church, Gay Hill Baptist Church, New Jerusalem Baptist Church and Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church. Sister Dobbins worked faithfully, beside her husband during his entire ministry until the Lord called him home in 1990. She remained a loyal member of Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church serving under the pastoral leadership of Reverend William L. Randall, Jr. She was a devout member until her health began to fail. She served with the Ministers Wives, Silver Star Ministry and the Mission Ministry and if anything was going on at her church you could count on her being in the service. Her life embodied the virtuous woman found in Proverbs 31. She was loving, kind, noble, helpful and concerned with others. She was the "Mother" of the church and she was known as the "Avon Lady" within the community. Mother Dobbins trusted the Lord with all her heart and she stood on His word daily to draw strength for her earthly journey. She loved quoting her favorite scripture "The joy of the Lord is my strength". Mother Dobbins suffered her own personal pain and sorrow, yet through it all, her faith and trust in God never wavered. She was always available to listen, love, lend a helping hand, give wise counsel and pray for her family and friends. Even in her autumn years she was a joy to be around. Mother Dobbins professed no fear of dying as her health failed, for death for the Christian is going home to be with the Lord. She was a Christian woman of great faith and wisdom, a noble, strong, devoted matriarch of her family. Mother Dobbins lived a full, rich life; wherein, she gave and received much love. Her presence will be greatly missed, but her spirit and many fond memories of her life will be with her loved ones forever. After a fruitful earthly journey, God dispatched His angel to receive His beloved daughter, Lucile Dickerson Dobbins on June 30, with her loving family at her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ike and Rebecca Dickerson, husband, Reverend E.H.
