Early Childhood On April 20, 1945 Oswald & Orelia Williams gave birth to Selena Marie Williams. She was raised along with her siblings Oswald Williams Jr. "June", Elizabeth Williams Johnson "Gal", Eula May Williams "Mut", Irving Williams "Short", Raymond Williams, Hilda Williams Durgan & Earl Williams in New Iberia, Louisiana. Selena being the adventurous child would often participate in all sorts of things that the country life had to offer. As the years continue to pass, that adventurous child slowly began to mature into an inquisitive teen. With growth comes change so Selena set her sights to Beaumont, Texas. While in Beaumont, Selena took housing in the home of her aunt Hilda Briscoe Jackson "Butsy". Living by the "It Takes a Village" mantra, aunt "Butsy" contributed to the development of her sister Orelia’s child. Marriage & Children In Beaumont Selena initiated her scholastic endeavors by graduating Hebert High Class of "65". During her time in high school, Selena was courted by a gentleman by the name of Cable Joseph Jr. This courtship led to a lifelong marriage and the birth of their first child, Rodney Ray Joseph. Cable being the hardworking man took advantage of an opportunity that presented itself in Galveston, Texas. They continued to grow their family with the birth of their second and third child Reginald Erwin Joseph followed by Bryan Christopher Joseph. Career Achievements Selena was always a seeker of knowledge. This ideology manifested itself into a person who valued the importance of education. Her educational accolades began with the completion of high school. This sense of accomplishment left her yearning for more, as if it was an itch that could never be soothed by scratching. She then completed the Galveston College Unit Secretary to become a unit clerk for UTMB. Upon her tenure of working as a unit clerk, a coworker pulled her to the side and stated, "What are you doing here? A woman with your smarts should be in the medical field. Go get the money girl! What are you waiting for!?!?!" Selena then enrolled into Galveston College. Her excellence was immediately acknowledged by receiving a letter from the Dean of Student Services dated May 17, 1985 naming her to the Honor List. Selena staying goal orientated graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch with the Bachelor of Science in Nursing on May 4th, 1991. She received an Award of Merit featured in the 91-92 edition of National Dean's List. This compendium recognizes the academic achievements of outstanding college students in America. Selena worked at Shriner's Burn, St. Elizabeth and ultimately retired as the charge nurse at the TDCJ hospital. The retirement didn’t stay long because she always wanted to inspire & spread the word of the Lord. Selena then became a teacher for students enrolled in the Medical Aid & Nurse Assistant programs. Her classes always began with the Lord's Prayer because she wanted to instill what led her to being able to accomplish her goals. That is a direct reflection of the Associates Arts degree in Bible Studies obtained from Abundant Life Christian Church. Selena's accolades are a direct result of her "no-quit" attitude. Beloved Family Selena is survived by her three sons: Rodney, Reginald, Bryan; grandchildren: Reginell, Breanna; sisters: Eula, Hilda; nieces: Carolyn, Joyce, Stacy, Linda, Margarita, Delores, Sheila, Ronetta, Tangie, Swanna, Joanna, Geneca, Toi, Theresa, Rayviana, Denise and many more; nephews: Melvin, Jerry H., Irving, Kenneth, Dewayne, Edward, Jerry W., Brad, Derek, Peter and many more; cousins: Harry, Harold, Regina, Ursela, Karen, Profit, Jonnalitha, and many more; and other family and friends.
