

James Earl Calhoun, 100 years, passed on to be with our Lord on June 20, 2016 at Brethren Care Village in Ashland, Ohio. Earl was born in Shelocta, PA on November 2, 1915 to James Elmer and Olive (Say) Calhoun. Earl married Jean Evelyn Laughlin on September 11, 1940 in South Bend, PA. He served in the US Army during WW II in the Army Signal Corps from 1943 to 1946. He was discharged at the rank of Technical Sergeant November 6, 1946. Earl was a Thirty Second Degree Mason at Lancaster Lodge #57 F&AM. In 2009 Earl had to the privilege of attending the WWII Honor Flight trip to Washington, DC. It was very special time for him and a great honor. Earl served as an elder with the 1St Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, Ohio. He was a member of the Aladdin Shrine, Knights Templar, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Kiwanis, and The American Legion. Earl loved to golf. He would spend many days on the course with his son, grandchildren and friends. He was also fond of woodworking, silversmithing and lapidary arts and created many pens, wooden bowls and silver art for family and friends.
Earl was preceded in death by his first wife Jean Calhoun. Earl married Audrey Campbell in September 1991. She preceded Earl in 1997. Earl married Evaline Yates in April 2000, a longtime friend he met in Mesa, AZ where he spent many winters away from the Ohio cold.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Jean, his second wife Audrey, siblings, S. Reed Calhoun, Mary (Guy) Sprankle, and Gertrude (Earl) Ray.
He is survived by his wife, Evaline, sons Jerry (Chris) Calhoun, Jeff (Mary) Calhoun, step children Larry (Connie) Zolynsky, John (Valerie) Smith, Sally (Ronald) Kratz and nephew Ron (Kathy) Bettin. Also survived by sister-in-laws Jean Calhoun, Orpal Hillary and Joanne (Wayne) Bettin; grandchildren Greg (Amber) Calhoun, Scott (Paula) Calhoun, Christie (Justin) Fredrickson, Michael, Megan and Sarah Calhoun, great grandchildren Cameron and Carter Calhoun and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday June 24, 2016 at HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME with Reverend Matthew Richardson officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Lancaster Masonic Lodge #57 conducting services at 7:45 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will follow the service at Maple Grove Cemetery, Lancaster with the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail conducting military graveside services.
