

Wendell Harold Carpenter, 98, of Lancaster passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Wendell was born on July 25, 1923 in Canal Winchester, Ohio to the late Roy W. and Edith J. (Cook) Carpenter. He was a proud WWII US Army Veteran who served as a Sergeant with the 808th Tank Destroyer Battalion. Wendell retired from the accounting department of Anchor Hocking Container while working in cost management and was a former Superintendent of Lancaster Utilities Collection. Wendell was a charter member of the Lancaster United Brethren Church, a member of both the VFW Post 11 and the American Legion and a long-time member of the Lancaster Men’s Chorus. Wendell is survived by his children, Sharon D. (Gary) Lucus and David A. (Heather) Carpenter; grandchildren, Stacie (Steve) Cardwell, Nicholaus Lucus, Beth Payne, Courtney (Joshua) Beckner and Haley Carpenter; 9 great grandchildren, Kearstin Turner, Mackensie Payne, Tenley Payne, Lily Hoffman, Jaxen Beckner, Kennedy Beckner, Brody Beckner, Quinton Lucus and Jocelyn Lucus; niece, Linda Anderson; brother in law, James (Joyce) Nixon; and cherished cousin, Eileen Benson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margret E. (Nixon) Carpenter; parents; and sister in law, Ila Jean Nixon.Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday November 9, 2021 at Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 7 pm and Tuesday from 10 to 11:00 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fairhope Hospice, 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, OH 43130.
