She received her Associate Degree from Indiana State Teachers College (Pennsylvania) and later earned her BS and Master’s in Education from Ohio University. Bunny was selected as a Jennings Foundation Scholar, recognizing her as one of the state’s most effective educators. She also received the “Teacher of the Year Award” for her outstanding teaching at Berne Union Local School District. Upon her retirement as a third grade teacher in 1985, she received a colorful quilt made using the “hand prints” of her students who she cherished. After she retired she remained active in the Fairfield County Retired Teachers Association.
She was an member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, The First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster and a Life Member of the Frank S. Benson Sr. TWIG 7 which she served for more than 25 years. She loved playing bridge and for many years belonged to a Bridge Circle with many of her close friends.
She loved to travel, taking many trips with the Olivedale Seniors and Freedom Years. At age 82, she drove her older sister and herself to Miami, FL to visit her other two older sisters.
Bunny is survived by her sons, Bill (Jacklyn) Heath, Jim (Karen) Heath, Bob (Sheila) Heath; grandchildren, Jarrott (Michelle) Heath and Debra (John) Marshall and great-grandchildren, Ryan and Emily Marshall. She was preceded in death by her husband, S. James Heath, parents, William and Anna Hochberg, sisters, Ruth, Clara, Hazel and Grace, and brother, Homer.
The family warmly thanks the staff of Bickford of Lancaster and FairHoPe Hospice for their compassionate and loving care of Bunny.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday June 29, 2017 in the Heritage Room at the First Presbyterian Church, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Matthew Richardson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bunny's memory to the First Presbyterian Church or Fairfield County Foundation.
