household listmaker, and master organizer, Nina Smith.
Nina began her adventures on the 13th of November, 1957 in Japan. She had travelled the world by the time she relocated to Vancouver at age 13, and remained a curious spirit the rest of her life. Always a social butterfly, Nina met her husband and best friend, Bruce, while acting in “Charlie’s Aunt.” She loved theatre
and continued acting in local productions when she could. Nina was also a champion of
education and went on to work for the Adult Education division of the Vancouver School Board.
Later, she would teach English as a Second Language at Thompson Rivers University. She also
lived in Revelstoke, where her first daughter was born, and later Kamloops, where her second
daughter was born.
Nina loved her family, including the family German Shepherds, and always put their needs
above her own. She was fiercely protective of her daughters and never missed a school event
or recital. She was able to make friends wherever she went (even on the bus) and her smile
would brighten any room. Her family will miss the way she was always prepared, her silly
dances, and her laugh.
She returned to the Lower Mainland in 2015 and passed on 10 January 2022 after a long
illness. We wish to thank all of the care aides, nurses, and doctors that cared for Nina over her
illness. She knew all your names and remembered all your conversations.
Mama- we love you so much and know you are doing the hokey-pokey in heaven.
By Nina’s request in lieu of flowers being sent to the family, please make a donation to your
local public library or the Canadian Mental Health Association.
A service will be held to celebrate her kind, compassionate, and energetic soul when it is safe for us to gather. She is survived by her husband (Bruce) , her two children (Kristen and Larissa) , as well as numerous loving relatives and friends.
