Carol Jane (CJ, Mum, Nana, Nanu, Auntie Carol Jane) was born on September 21st, 1937 in Vancouver, BC, Canada and transitioned out of this life on May 30th, 2026 at “The Village” in Langley, BC. Her wonderful life of 88 years profoundly touched many individual lives with her boundless energy, unbridled optimism, Christian faith and passion for being of service; this included her beloved family, many friendships, church congregations and an array of people that she sought to know and often help through the journey of life. She especially loved children and sheep.
Carol Jane was pre-deceased by her mother Marguerite Louise Dobson (Tennant) and father Gordon Wells Dobson and her brother Gary Dobson. She is survived by her loving husband Don and sons Michael (Sarah), Peter (Tamara) & Richard along with grandchildren Emily (Paul & great grand children Sophie, Henry), David (Anelia), Rebecca, Miranda (Matt), Hannah (Scott & great grand children Malakai, Quinn), Kara (Jerome) and Jeremy. She is also survived by her sisters Doffy (Roger) and Mary (Garry) and by her brother in-law Bob (Helen) along with many nieces and nephews. Mum passed away suddenly with her much-loved son Richard at her side.
It was an early highlight of her life at age five to move to Burnaby, BC and “have a barn” and eventually a horse. She loved riding her horse (bareback) on the Deer Lake trails.
After a year at UBC, she followed the path of her mum (VON nurse) and became a nurse after training at VGH Nursing School (1959) where she developed long lasting friendships including meeting her best friend Helen who remained a dear friend throughout her life.
Carol Jane fell in love with Hugh Donald Gray “Don” in the late 1950’s and in 1960 they were married at Deer Lake United Church with a reception that followed in the Dobson house in Burnaby on Rugby street. Their 66 years of marriage were filled with family, church, travel and an important love for each other.
Travel was a highlight for CJ & Don with Maui a favourite frequent destination often with family and friends. Favourite place she visited – New Zealand – with all those wonderful sheep.
Carol Jane (not Carol!) volunteered extensively throughout her life including: Sunday School Teacher, Canadian Girls in Training Leader, Treasurer of the Langley Spinners & Weavers Association; Newsletter Publisher for the Lower Mainland Sheep Producers Association; the Friday Bread Drop, and; visits to patients in long term care.
In her latest years, Carol Jane was in a retirement home with Don and enjoyed drives to see horses with Richard along with Team Canada Women’s Softball games and the Equestrian Shows in Langley.
Carol Jane has gone on to be united with her loving God & Savior Jesus Christ and looked forward to being with her Mother in heaven – her Christian faith was at the core of who she was and she led her life beautifully as an example to all.
There will be a Memorial Service for Carol Jane at 2pm on August 8th, 2026 at Port Kells Church, 19131 88th Avenue, Surrey, BC and a reception to follow at Patience Acres. In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to please donate to the Red Cross Society of Canada in her name.
