

HARTL, Cpl. David Thomas (Reg. # 34918) Passed away the evening of Wednesday, April 20th, 2011, at Delta View Life Enrichment Centre, of Pick's Disease. David is survived by his two daughters Serena Hartl (James Conlon) and Whitney Pollock (Justin) and their mother Joanne Rowen. David was a devoted father and he adored his beautiful daughters. David comes from an extended family of RCMP officers and is also survived by his parents, Cpl. (Rt'd) Gus Hartl and Beatrice Hartl, and his five brothers - Phil Hartl, and wife Linda, S/Sgt. (Rt'd) Doug Hartl, and wife Poona, S/Sgt. (Rt'd) Bob Hartl, and wife Pat, Cpl. Dennis Hartl, and Gus Hartl, and wife Brenda. David is also survived by many nieces and nephews. David was born on May 6th, 1958, in Dauphin, Manitoba, the fifth of six brothers. He was a healthy and happy child, who grew into a healthy and happy man. He joined the RCMP in July, 1978, and was posted in Fort McLeod, Alberta, and then in Raymond, Alberta, before transferring to the Equitation Section of the RCMP, training ground for the RCMP Musical Ride. David was the Lead File Rider for the Musical Ride, during his three year term there. David transferred to Coquitlam, BC, in 1985 and spent the balance of his 30 year career there in many different roles, including his participation in the Coquitlam Emergency Response Team (ERT) for over 20 years, several years as Team Leader. David was a physical and fun-loving man, completing many long distance runs, marathons and triathlons. He loved to run every day. He was an accomplished and ardent equestrian. He enjoyed time with colleagues, friends and family, and was a loved and cherished member of the Hartl and Rowen families. A funeral mass for David will be held at St. Joseph`s Catholic church, located at 20676 Fraser Highway, Langley, on Monday, May 2nd, at 3:00 PM. A reception will follow. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the VGH and UBC Hospital Foundation, FTD Research, at UBC.
