Fern Marion Richardson (MacKenzie) aged 94 died peacefully with family by her side, on September 27th, 2022 at Zion Park Manor. Fern was born in Craik, Saskatchewan to Adeline MacKenzie (Carver) and Charles MacKenzie and was the third of five children. She grew up and went to school in Bjorkdale, Saskatchewan. Later, she took her training as a hairdresser and opened her own salon in Burnaby, B.C.
Fern married the late Robert (Bob) Richardson in 1946. Fern and Bob lived and worked in Brandon, Manitoba before relocating permanently to B.C. in 1954. Fern is survived by her brother Charles MacKenzie, her son Allan, his wife Gillian, grandchildren; Andrew, Christopher and Heather and their spouses Krista, Trina and Andrew, plus her six great-grandchildren; Ashlyn, Ryder, Cooper, Kieran, Lainie and Oliver.
Fern volunteered for many years at Langley Memorial Hospital and pursued other interests such as curling, walking and golfing. She received several ribbons at the PNE for her knitting, crafts, and canning. She and her good friends went on many trips, where they gambled, cruised, and adventured together.
In 2015, Fern moved in to Zion Park Manor. Here she did her best to keep the staff on their toes and laughing. She continued to entertain her family here, offering walker and wheelchair rides to her great-grandchildren and sneaking tea and cookies, when possible. She was loved and well cared for there by the wonderful staff, who saw to her every need right up to the last moments.
She was dearly loved, and we will miss her feisty spirit and her determined attitude.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday October 14, 2022 at 11:00am at Henderson's Langley Funeral Home, 20786 Fraser Hwy Langley, BC V3A 4G6
