Florence Estlin

Born in Vancouver, Esmee had a rich, rewarding life. She grew up in Burnaby where she met and married Charlie, her husband of 63 years whose promotions through the ranks of the BC Ministry of Conservation took them to Victoria, Courtenay, Nelson, Victoria again and then retirement In Metchosin. With family members and friends often joining them, they enjoyed skiing, hiking, sailing and boating, and fishing. Esmée was also a keen gardener, strong swimmer and skater, and excellent shopper. She worked full time as a secretary while raising her family. In later years, she and Charlie lived and travelled on their boat in the six weeks of the best summer weather while she rented out their house. Many friends and family members have happy memories of joining them. They spent the month of February skiing at Silver Star in Vernon. They flew in his private plane to the Caribbean and to Montreal Expo ‘86. They square danced, travelled on train, plane and road trips, and kept up their retirement home on ten acres of mountain top living off Happy Valley Road in Metchosin. Widowed for 12 years, Esmée moved to the Avalon Gardens in Langley where she lived happily for ten years, actively enjoying life till recently.

Survived by daughter Sally Jennejohn (Bill) of Heffley Lake; granddaughter Leila Hamilton (Greg) of Vancouver; Daughter Judy Yates of 100 Mile House; granddaughter Lesley Ruby (Tom) of Twin Falls, Idaho; grandson Ross McEachern (Heather) of Richmond; and great grandchildren Hannah and Gage Ruby and Sophia and Adam McEachern; as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews. Stories of her life were published in the Langley Advance Times for her 100th and 105th birthdays. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at the Avalon Gardens.
