Janet Irene Manson

Janet Irene Manson (Sands/Este), 80, of White Rock, BC, died peacefully at Peace Arch Hospital on July 31, 2026.

Born on August 31, 1945 in Lockerby, Ontario to Sara and Jouko Este, Janet obtained a degree in Sciences from Queens University which she utilized as a lab technician. She continued her studies at UBC and went onto a career as a writer and editor for the Open Learning Agency developing curriculum, then government contracts with her own business.

Outside of work, Janet was very active with strata councils in her communities, and was selected as a 2010 Paralympics volunteer, contributing long days at the events in Whistler. She loved reading, birding and gardening. Her partner Ron remembers her motto of “less is more” when shopping at the plant store.

Janet is survived by partner of 20 years, Ron Lunggren and his children Jennifer (Mike) Kirk, Katherine (Tom) Walz; her children, David (Tanya), Peter (Joyce), and Ian (Tao Li Jing) Sands, step children Keli Manson and Christine (Colin) Manson-Holyk; her brothers, Bill (Pat) and Robert “Bob” (Theresa) Este and grandchildren Kayla, Bodhi and Gaia, and Ron’s grandchildren, Riley, Alexa, Landon, and Mikaela. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sara & Jouko, brothers Jim and Peter Este and second husband James Manson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family would like to welcome all those who wish to remember Janet to attend. Please refer back to this page for any updates on the celebration.
