John Ib Christensen was a very wonderful husband, brother, uncle and friend. He had a very soft spoken demeanor that exuberated great love and compassion for his family, friends and coworkers. John was a very generous individual who would give to many and especially those that were in need. He had the most wonderful sense of humor that warmed the hearts of those around him.
John was born Friday, December 15th, 1950 at 3:30 PM in the Drumheller Hospital in Alberta. His birth was greatly anticipated since there hadn’t been a child in the family for nine years. His parents were Ruth and Emil Christensen. John had six siblings- Two brothers, Niels (who predeceased him in 1981), Edward and four sisters- Lorine, Mary, Greta and Ella. The first two years of his life were spent on a farm at Rosebud, Alberta and then his family moved to Botha, Alberta. John completed his elementary years in Botha and then attended high school at Stettler, Alberta. After graduating in 1969 he moved to Edmonton where he started his career in Men‘s Fashions.
John’s profession in Men’s Fashions presented him with many opportunities to be in a Management position. He was always highly respected by the staff that he worked with and by his superiors. John always looked so handsome and outstanding. He took great pride in his work and how he presented himself to others.
He began his career in men’s fashions at Woodwards, in Edmonton. Later he transferred to Woodwards, in Calgary serving as manager in the men’s department. John was given the opportunity to further his career where he took a position of managing the main branch of McLeod Brothers in Calgary. His last position was with Moores Clothing for Men in Langley, B.C.
John and Dorothy met at Woodwards in Calgary. The story here is: John’s friend Peter who was the manager of the Woodwards Men’s Wear in Lethbridge where Dorothy worked set John up for a blind date with her. Because Peter was a bit of a prankster John wondered what to expect. Little did he know that they would fall in love at first sight. That was in May of 1976 and five months later they were married October 30th in Lethbridge, Alberta. After the wedding they settled in Calgary, Alberta until 2003 when they moved to Langley, B.C.
John was blessed with many nieces and nephews. One of them being his very special niece Nichole, who was his “little pumkie.”
John had a special gift of relating to the special needs children that Dorothy would bring to their home. They loved Mr. C’s teasing and the time that he spent with them. He shared a very special bond with Jeremy and Kevin. John was always excited whenever they came to visit and he could take them on trips to their favorite coffee shop, or restaurant.
Throughout his life, John was a very hard worker always giving his very best. John leaves behind him a legacy of precious memories of the warm and loving ways he shared with those so dear to him.
My Dearest John,
Today would have been our 34th wedding anniversary. As I reflect back on those 34 wonderful years together I know that I loved you for being the wonderful husband you were. You had so much love to share by being my one friend who showed me so much warmth and care. John I loved you for being the wonderful man that only you could be. You once said to me, “Thank you for never turning your back on me and caring for me during my illness.”
Babe, I wouldn’t have it any other way but to stay by your side through sickness and in health, till death do us part. You may not be here with me today, but your presence is in the memories of you I have within my heart.
YOU WERE MY WHOLE WORLD JOHN! I will love you forever and ever.
I MISS YOU SO MUCH BABE
With all my love to you, John
Your loving wife, Dorothy (Your Baby Poo)
