It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Kathleen Cecilia O'Neill, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Born on December 14, 1950, in Warrington, United Kingdom, Kathleen was proud of her Irish roots and cherished the childhood summers she spent in County Wexford, Ireland where her connection to family and heritage was nurtured and celebrated.
Kathleen was the devoted wife of Colin, their adventurous spirit brought them to Canada, where they journeyed from Saskatoon to Vancouver Island before moving to their cherished acreage in South Langley to continue to raise the family, and then onto more adventures in the White Rock and Fort Langley area. She passed away on August 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and connection.
She shared a lifetime of love and partnership with Colin, the love of her life. She was deeply loved by her five children, their partners and eleven grandchildren, each of whom brought joy and meaning to her life. Kathleen embraced all the ‘Canadian’ things her children wished to do – from horses, skiing, volleyball to baseball.
As the youngest of nine children, Kathleen grew up surrounded by love and carried that deep sense of family throughout her life. She was the heart of her family and the centre of a wide and loving extended circle. Her home was a place of comfort and celebration — especially during her cherished family dinners and large gatherings, where stories were shared and lasting memories were made.
On their South Langley acreage, Kathleen found joy in her gardens, her chickens (despite their short-lived appearances), and raising her children with Colin. Her home was a welcoming space for neighbourhood kids and anyone who needed a warm meal, a kind word, or a place to feel at home.
She loved swimming in her backyard pool, camping with family under the stars, and embracing the outdoors with the same adventurous spirit that defined her life. Kathleen lived with intention, generosity, and a deep love for those around her.
She often said she was born to be a mum and grandma — and she lived that truth with all her heart. She taught us to love each other, be patient with one another, and meet people where they are. To those who knew her, she was the Patron Saint of Children — a guiding light of unconditional love, comfort, and care.
Her sudden departure has left a profound void in our lives, but her spirit will continue to guide and uplift those she loved. She was deeply cherished, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
‘Put the kettle on luv’. Love you mum.
A Celebration of Kathleen's Life will be held at 11:00am on September 7, 2025, at The Fort Langley Community Hall.
