Len is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marilyn, his three adoring daughters, Elizabeth, Jennifer, and Meghan, grandkids Makena, Leo, Carter, Emery and Cole and his sons-in-law Mike, Chris and Matt.
Born on October 7th, 1948, and raised in Toronto, Len graduated from Ryerson University and began his career as an Architectural Technologist with Imperial Oil. His career took him to Chicago then Edmonton, before settling in Burlington, Ontario with his young family. After visiting Vancouver, BC on vacation, Len declared “This is the place for me!” and in 1988, he made his dream of West Coast living a reality, moving the family to a beautiful new home in White Rock, BC, where he resided until his passing.
Len was an avid golfer for over 50 years, starting his golf career as a caddy at only 14 years of age. As he told it, he walked 4 miles uphill both ways to get to the course, but the course let him play for free after hours, so he was happy to do so. He idolized “Arnie” Palmer, and finally fulfilled his dream of playing Pebble Beach when he was in his late 50s.
He was also a talented artist and photographer, passing his artistic capabilities down to two of his daughters, and his love of architecture and photography on to his eldest. The girls have many fond memories of sketching with their dad on the dining room table and learning photography using his old Pentax camera.
For over 20 years, Len worked as the Technical Manager at Duradek, and this family-run business became a second family to him. He made many close connections with his coworkers, and the friendships found at Duradek lasted well past his retirement.
Len (Poppi) was a family man, fiercely protective of his three “sweeties”, and immensely proud of his grandchildren. He found so much joy in watching his three girls grow and raise their children, always wanting to share in each and every milestone of their lives.
Len’s love for his family was evident, his eyes would light up at the sight of his daughters, his smile was biggest when watching his grandkids play, and his personality shined when he was trading mildly inappropriate jokes with his sons-in-law.
Len was nothing short of joyful and known for his playfulness and childlike spirit. Whether he was skipping down Main Street Disneyland hand in hand with his daughter, doing the Perfect Strangers “Dance of Joy” when his daughter was accepted to university, giving his grandkids ‘horsey’ rides around the house, racing the kids through the backyard in a wheelbarrow, or cooking his signature dish “Lenny’s World-Famous Dogs”, his creativity and sense of humour were unparalleled.
Len will be remembered fondly for his kind heart, boisterous personality, devotion to his family, and contagious smile. We love you, Poppi.
