Lionel Jeffrey Adams passed away unexpectedly on March 21st, 2026, almost 3 months after a severe stroke that robbed the active extrovert of his mobility and speech. The loving husband and father was 3 weeks shy of his 86th birthday.
Lionel was born to Irvine and Elaine (née Bynoe) Adams on April 10, 1940 in Chateaubelair, St. Vincent, where he was raised. After school, he trained in public health in Kingston, Jamaica. On his return, he married Ynolde Mulraine in April 1969; they immigrated to BC 9 months later. There they welcomed a daughter, Ramona, who died just before reaching 14 months of age. While he was upgrading his credentials, they welcomed another daughter, Leona. When he completed his training, they moved to Prince Rupert, then Langley where he and Ynolde lived from 1979 onwards.
Lionel was resilient through physical and professional challenges, and retired in 2005. He was an avid photographer, a hobby he maintained through his life, even as he gave up jogging and cycling. He swam regularly until the start of the pandemic. He remained active leading up to his stroke, engaging with neighbours on his daily walks and connecting with friends and family via email and WhatsApp.
Lionel was predeceased by his parents, brothers Philip, Gilbert, and Eustace, sisters Hannah and Martha, and daughter Ramona. He is survived by his younger brothers David and Ceyon, his wife of almost 57 years, Ynolde, his daughter Leona, and his and Ynolde's extended family (nieces, nephews, and cousins and their descendants).
