She immigrated to Canada in 1957, and she left Italy on December 6 of that same year. After being on the ship for 12 long days, she arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the well-known immigration port, Pier 21. From Halifax she boarded a train to Montreal and in Montreal switched trains and boarded the train that was headed west to Vancouver, BC. Our Dad, Alberto, eagerly awaited her arrival in Vancouver. She arrived in Vancouver on December 21, 1957, and was under strict orders from her Dad (Nonno Fabbian) that she was to stay with her first cousin, Marta Fabbian, until their wedding day of December 26, 1957.
Mom and Dad were married 54 years before Dad passed away in 2012. With very little money, a deep faith in God and not knowing the language or the Canadian way of life they embarked on their journey together. They lived in Vancouver for about a year then moved to Queensborough (New Westminster, BC) where they started their large family. Queensborough had a very large Italian community from the Veneto region, and they found themselves surrounded by a wonderful community of friends and neighbours that all had a very similar story to theirs. Mom and Dad lived in Queensborough for 14 years and had all 6 boys there until moving to a small farm in Surrey, BC in 1972. The farm was needed to supplement a one-income household and large, growing family of 6 boys. Mom and Dad moved from Surrey to Langley in 1988 and remained in Langley until the present day.
Mom/Nonna was pre-deceased by her loving husband Alberto (1928 – 2012) and survived by their 6 boys: Silvano and grand-daughters Mia (Josue) and Lucia (Matt) and great-grandchildren Levi, December, Harmony and Ezekiel, George (Debbie), Richard and Stuart, John (Melody) and grand-children Matthew (Rani), Daniel and Ryan (Katrina), Josh and Christina (Paul) and great grand-children Adrian, Anastasia and Nico, Dave and grand-children, Mitchell (Erika), Isabella, Matthea and Jacob, Peter (Kerry) and grandchildren Tyler (Danielle), Ashleigh (Tim) and Kristine (Cormac), Angelo (Lisa) and grandchildren Sofia (Jacob), Anthony and Dominic and large extended family in Italy, Australia and Canada.
Funeral Services will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Langley on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the RCH Foundation.
