Melaina was predeceased by her brother Matthew and leaves behind her parents, Bob and Margie, her brother, Stephen, Grandparents Nelson and Dianne Fry and Jim and Eleanor Paisley. She is also loved and missed by many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Melaina leaves behind her Performance Arts families at the Young at Arts and Circus Lab as well as numerous friends and teachers who all miss her greatly. Her grey tabby, Mittens, also misses her terribly.
Melaina was a grade 11 student at Langley Senior Secondary. She spent countless hours training at the Young At Arts dance studio and at the Circus Lab. She performed often and in particular, her favorite performances included acro and contortion routines.
Melaina was a lively, energetic, vibrant young woman who loved to practice her aerials, jumps, stretches and contortions. She liked experimenting with new poses and worked diligently on her art form. She loved spending time with her family—playing cards, watching movies, baking and cooking, family meals, travelling and having long talks. She attended a few Cirque de Soleil shows which she enjoyed immensely. Melaina would spend time in the summer having naps in the sun on the porch swing. She loved to play with Mittens and take care of her.
Melaina spent countless hours with her Grandparents who live with us. She would watch Family Feud, and the Price is Right. She learned the song from All in the Family and sang a great Edith Bunker. In turn, her Grandparents learned all about Dora, the Explorer, Toopy and Binno and the Mole Sisters (her favourite). She enjoyed shopping trips, walks, playing Crazy 8s and Shrek marathons with friends. She liked making funny faces in picture booths with friends and was known to make many people laugh with her crazy eyebrow dances.
We all loved Melaina dearly and will miss her so very much. Our hearts are heavy with questions and feelings of grief and loss. We take comfort and solace in the knowledge that she walks with angels now and we will again be reunited some day.
Melaina was a bright, shining light in our lives. We have chosen to celebrate Melaina and her enthusiasm for the Performing Arts by setting up the Melaina Paisley Scholarship Fund for the Creative Arts. Any gifts or donations can be sent to the “Melaina Paisley Arts Scholarship” GoFundMe page (https://www.gofundme.com/melaina-paisley-arts-scholarship).
