Patricia Beth Dyer

Pat, a Great Grandmother, Grandmother, Mom, friend will be forever remembered and cherished by her children Keith (Debbie) and Kim (Denning) and her grandchildren, Jessica (Brad), Morgan (Sean), David, Holly (Ali), Terri (James), Tyler (Emma) and Kelly (Mike) along with many great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband and soul mate Gilbert and brother Dennis and his wife Millie.

Born February 1, 1936 to John Thomas and Eunice McCluskie, Pat lived her young life in Vancouver, BC with her older brother Dennis. She attended John Oliver High School where she developed an appreciation for learning, tennis and choir. Sharing stories of her teen years and summer vacations with her cousin Shirley and the McDonald clan would always bring a smile to her face.

In 1955 Pat married Andrew McLachlan. Together they had two children, Keith Andrew and Kim Patricia. Pat was a stay at home Mom for a brief period but continue night school college studies to achieve her goal of becoming an elementary school teacher.

In 1969 Pat began a teaching career that would span 26 years at Manoah Steves and Diefenbaker Elementary Schools in Richmond, BC. She was passionate about her work and students. Her dedication and talent contributed to her success and many accomplishments.

She organized annual primary musical productions. She spearheaded a first ever project to take Grade 1 students on an overnight camping trip to Webb’s Holiday Acres Guest Ranch. Many friendships were forged with colleagues that continued for many years after. Pat happily retired in 1995 to begin a new chapter in her life.

In 1980 Pat and Gil were married bringing together their children to form a blended family. Although Pat was still teaching, they managed some Christmas vacations in Hawaii and to do some cruise ships tours. As the blended family grew in size, they saw a need to gather the grandchildren. One-week summer retreats began around 1993 to destinations on Vancouver Island that included Grandma, Grandpa and 16 grandchildren in one townhouse! How wonderful the memories for all!

Pat and Gil took retirement seriously and became snowbirds heading south for the winter to warmer climates. Arizona was the place to be. They travelled to Arizona annually and met up with brother Dennis, his wife Millie and Pat’s Mom at a trailer park paradise they fondly called the Good Life Park. There was golf, swimming, bingo, music, day trips to Mexico and a whole lot of fun for 15 years.

Pat and Gil lived life to the fullest! Everyday was spent together doing what they loved best.

In 2012 Pat lost Gil to cancer. Gil was survived by his three daughters, Cathy (Kim), Patricia (Patrick), and Sandra (Steve) and their families.

In 2015 she moved to White Rock to be near her daughter Kim where she enjoyed walks on the beach, reading and quilting. Summers included trips to Salmon Point to holiday with Keith, Kim and families to do some salmon fishing.

Feeling restless Pat purchased a Langley condo and took on a major renovation project to build her dream kitchen. Once complete the kitchen became the hub for baking. Each year dozens and dozens of cookies, butter tarts, shortbread and rum balls were produced and shipped off around the country to eager grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Pat was so proud of her children and families, she loved them all dearly. Her selflessness, warmth, and generous spirit will be remembered forever. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion that lives on.
