Roger or Grandpa Roger as I called him was my Step-Grandfather. I was raised by him and my Nannie ( Grandma ) he was the epitome of what a “Real Man” is and was. All my years growing up and being around him, he embedded this mindset in me to work hard and never quit. He was a longshoreman with Type-1 diabetes, a prosthetic leg he got from losing his leg, and a massive hernia in his stomach that would bounce up and down every time he would laugh. Even with all of these issues, he STILL got up every morning and went to work EVERY SINGLE DAY, truth be told I can’t remember a time he ever took a day off. He supported his family, his family being his biological children and grandchildren, and his Step-Children ( 2 Step-Sons and 1 Step-Daughter ) his Step-Grandson ( Myself ) and his Step-Granddaughter ( My sister ). I was the one who witnessed him having a stroke and called 911. I never got to say my final goodbyes to him as he was taken off of life support half an hour before we got to the hospital. I miss the days that him and I would mow the lawn together, do dump runs together, go to Captains Galley Fish and Chips on a regular weekly basis and have all you can eat fish and chips, watch Hockey, Football, and Survivor. There will never be another Roger James Sewell in this lifetime. What he stood for and what he did was incomparable. I could only ever hope to turn out to be half the man you were Grandpa. I love you with every part of my heart and soul and I hope you and Nannie are having a blast up there. Until we meet again.
