Rosa Gautron (née Vincent), known to us as Tante Rose, was born in St-Georges on June 11, 1922. Rose passed away on April 22, 2025, at the age of 102. She was predeceased by her husband, George, in 1993; her father, Philorum, and mother, Marie-Anna Vinet; as well as her siblings and their spouses: Edgar (Eugenie), Hector, Aimé, Josephat (Gabrielle), Agnès (Philip Barnabé), Sévère, Dorilla (Raymond Fontaine), Thérèse, Alma (Lucien Dorges), Fernand (Marge), Sylvio (Edith), Jean (Lorraine), Rodolphe, and Alexandre.
Survived by her are three sisters-in-law, Thérèse, Donalda and Jeanette, and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly and supported throughout her life, when she could — for which we are deeply grateful.
Her early life in St-Georges was very special to her—not only because the village was built on her grandfather Alphonse’s homestead, but also because it was part of her father’s farm. Rose survived a tragic accident on the farm at the age of three, surrounded by her family’s love and encouragement. At the age of 14, Rose made the decision to have her leg amputated in order to receive a prosthetic, yet life posed no challenges that she could not overcome.
In 1947, she had the opportunity to go to Vancouver, where she found work as an accomplished seamstress. It was there that she met George Gautron, the love and pillar of her life. She and a few friends formed a partnership and started their own company, Paxton Enterprises Ltd., manufacturing disposable Tyvek garments, with products sold nationally. Rose’s other passion, however, was genealogy. She spent many years researching her ancestors and produced binders of information for her siblings—long before search engines made such work easier.
Rose and George retired to their country home in Surrey, where they frequently welcomed family and friends. Rose and her sisters spoke every Wednesday, and she called her other siblings every Saturday or Sunday—right up until last year—to share family news.
Special thanks to her nephew Michel and his wife, Anne-Marie, whose loving care allowed Aunt Rose to remain in her home until her final days.
The Langley Henderson Funeral Home in B.C. is in care of arrangements. Rose’s ashes will be laid to rest with her beloved George in May [date to be confirmed].
Memorial donations may be made to the Winnipeg River Heritage Museum in St-Georges located on the farm where Rose was raised.
