Verona Mary Louise Clegg

Verona Mary Louise Clegg, nee Jeffrey, moved to the Fraser Valley area of Abbotsford in 1945 with her parents. The Jeffreys were a farming family from Gilbert Plains Manitoba. Verona married Charles Lawrence Clegg in 1949 and had five children, Joel, (Jan) Janet, (Drew) Randy, Susan, and Tyler; grandchildren, David, (Pam) Deanna, (Owen) and Devon, and great grandchildren, Emma, Brendan, Ben, Grace and Anna. She is predeceased by her husband, Lawrence and grandson David as well as her five siblings Alton, Miriam Kydd, John, Glenn and Berniece.

Verona, like her parents, was a hard-working, easy-going person, and was very musical, playing both piano and organ, and knew every tune by heart. She and Lawrence cleared their West Langley property in 1952, where there was a creek, a forest with a walking trail, cabin, vegetable gardens, fruit trees and a large pond. Later, Verona, with some neighbourhood friends with children of a similar age introduced the kindergarten in the West Langley community hall. Verona later finished her education and enjoyed teaching very much. Many students recall her from her years at George Greenaway and East Kensington schools where she was a very popular grade 3 teacher until her retirement. Verona was the centre of a large family and enjoyed gardening at her home in Brookswood where Lawrence and Verona moved for their retirement. Many from the Langley community remember her for being passionate about her music, respectful of others, but most of all her kindness.
