Our Dad was an incredible man, a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Despite being a man of few words, his actions and accomplishments spoke volumes about his character.
Starting in the Navy at the young age of 16 from Ottawa, Ontario, he couldn't wait to get enrolled. His love for mechanics led him to transfer to the Army, where he served for 34 years. He was determined to move up the ladder in the Military, so he started studying in the evenings and quickly became a Chief Warrant Officer. His dedication and hard work are truly inspiring.
Our Dad had a heart full of passion and love for many things in life. He poured himself into his work and his hobbies, always giving his all to everything he did. While still ensuring all of us Girls were also shown how to work hard but still be patient. His love for writing, journalism, weightlifting, woodworking, and reading mystery and crime novels was infectious, and he would light up when talking about his interests. He loved to watch movies and tell jokes, his laughter filling the room and making everyone feel warm and happy. And despite his tough exterior, he had a sweet tooth for desserts and sweets, always sneaking us a piece when our mom wasn't looking. But what really stood out about him was his dedication to teaching us how to swim, his training as a lifeguard ensuring that we were excellent swimmers too. He took pride in passing on his skills to us, and we felt the love and care that he put into every lesson.
Our Dad showed his love in many ways, from running behind our bicycles as we learned to ride, to teaching us how to take care of the car, so that none of us would ever be left on the side of the road alone. He was always willing to help others in need, whether it was driving a neighbor to the doctor or fixing a friend's toilet or sink.
Our Mom and Dad made an incredible team, with our Dad standing by all of our Mom's endeavors, no matter how crazy they may have seemed. Their shared love of renovating homes, buying and selling houses, and landscaping showed their commitment to creating a beautiful home and a better future for their family.
Despite his many tours of duty, including Germany, Egypt, and Cypress with the U.N., he always made sure to be there for his family. He was a mentor and a true example of what it means to be a dedicated and loving family man to so many even while managing the Airfield Base woodworking Workshop. Anywhere where they were making something with wood, he was there!
Our Dad may have been a man of few words, but his actions spoke louder than any words ever could. He will always be remembered for his gentle nature, his kind heart, and his unwavering commitment to his family. Rest in peace, Dad. You will always be loved and missed.
