

Arthur Castellani, born Attilio Mario Settembrino Castellani, in St. Ippolito, Italy on September 7, 1923, passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his bedside on January 8, 2015. He immigrated to the U.S. at the age of five months. He graduated from Eastern High School in 1941 and became employed by Sparrow Hospital. Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the U. S. Army where he used his Sparrow Hospital training to serve as a medic in World War II. He served at Normandy, The Battle of the Bulge and in Germany and earned two battle stars. After the war's end he remained in Germany for a year to manage a hospital. After the war he found work at Oldsmobile and later purchased the Ko Ko Bar and Kwik Stop party store in East Lansing which he owned and operated for 10 years.
He married Dorena Fata on February 1, 1947 and they were married for 67 years. Art's passion was his family and sports, particularly baseball, golf and bowling. He was an avid Detroit Tiger fan and was especially proud of his hole in one at Prairie Creek on the seventh hole using a seven iron.
Art was preceded in death by his brothers Frank and Rudy. He is survived by his wife, Dorena, sister Rose Olivet, children William Castellani, Edward (Robin) Castellani, Mark (Lisa Hildorf) Castellani and Jeannie (Bill) Mothersell, and grandchildren, Michael, Christopher , Carson and Henry Castellani, Natalie, Robert and Angela Mothersell, brothers-in-law Ernie (Teresa) Fata, Lawrence (Barbara) Fata, Dave Fetyko, sisters-in law, Gloria Spagnuolo, Ellen Fata, Eleanor (Louis) Dionise, Joanne ( Dennis) Bernest, and Maureen Diviney and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
A visitation for friends and family will be held Monday, January 12, 2015, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Tiffany Funeral Home, with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gerard Church, Tuesday January 13, 2015, at 10:30 A. M. with Father John Klein presiding. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to Lansing Catholic High School or St. Gerard Church or the American Lung Association in memory of Art Castellani.
