Barbara Jean Brown

Barbara Jean Brown (Reed), lovingly known as "The Cookie Monster," passed away on January 23, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on July 14, 1934, to Alfred and Natalie Reed (Reynolds), Barbara brought joy and warmth to all who knew her.

Barbara was married to her late husband, Linnie Brown Sr., for 56 years. Together they built a family that spanned five generations. Her passing marks the first time in many years that only four generations remain.

Barbara worked in retail throughout her life, contributing her kindness and dedication to many stores. In her personal time, she enjoyed paint-by-numbers, reading, word searches, crocheting afghans, and taking leisurely rides. She enjoyed being around family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings Katherine Backus and Raymond Reed; children Linnie Brown Jr. (Glynis) and Sandra D. Waters (John); and grandchildren Scottie Michele Beck, Robby Bridges and Casey Beck.

Barbara’s memory lives on through her surviving children Brenda Bridges and Jack (Cindi) Brown. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren (including two arriving in March)

Barbara’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and family. She will be deeply missed by those who knew her.Her family wishes to thank the Willows of East Lansing for their loving care of our mom the last 5 years and Sparrow Hospice.
