Betty Mae Shappell

Betty Mae Shappell, age 87, of Lansing, Michigan passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022. She was born June 14, 1935, the daughter of Kenneth and Lana (Hines) Jerome. Betty was a bartender for many years, before working as a plant supervisor. She loved deer hunting and fishing, especially for brook trout. She spent the winter months ice fishing for perch. Along with her husband, David, she spent years in the Big Manistee River backwater above Tippy dam. She enjoyed picking blueberries and wild asparagus, and hunting for Morel mushrooms. Betty also loved spending time at the casino, and traveled on eighteen cruises. Surviving are her husband of 40 years, David Shappell; children, Karlene Kerkes, Cindy Moon, and Frank Kerkes; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents; two brothers, Jerry and Jim Jerome and one sister, Beth Bates. www.GrLansing.com
