Brendan Shassberger passed away suddenly on July 20, 2021. Brendan was born December 3, 2000 in Simi Valley CA. He was fun from the start, albeit impatient, not even waiting for the doctor to arrive for his birth. He had the most accepting heart and would call you “my friend” if you merely talked to him when he said hello. He saw the best in people, loved everyone and never saw their faults. Brendan struggled for years with psychiatric issues. He befriended many people his age with similar struggles and tried to help them even as he suffered inside. He was a good listener and always made family and friends feel better. He was generous with hugs and always made sure those around him know they were loved. He had a unique sense of humor and would make you smile with ease. His capacity for “That’s what she said” jokes was endless. He did, however, despise sarcasm.
He started his affinity for music at the age of 4. He liked to use a microphone and mimic Bono while watching a DVD of U2 in concert. Fortunately, he picked up a guitar and instantly knew his calling. He was one of the most gifted guitar players and spent hours every day playing. He loved to bring an amp into the living room and play for family. If he didn’t know a song he just had to hear it to play it. He was planning to take classes on music theory as he developed a love for classical music on the guitar after years of playing most every type of rock and metal. He loved to build guitars from old parts he had laying around. He thought “they looked like Frankenstrat but had a great sound”.
He is preceded in death by his grandmother Marilynn J. Shassberger who passed away in 2006.
Brendan is survived by his parents, Steve & Lori Shassberger; brother, Stephen; sisters, Jordan Shassberger and Maren (Scott) Wheeler; two nephews, Stephen and Liam; grandparents, Mark & Lota Premer and Steve & Barb Shassberger. Brendan also leaves behind many aunts, uncles and cousins that loved him dearly.
