Charlene A. Walker

Charlene Alberta Walker, age 95, entered into the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 7, 2025. She was born August 20, 1929, in Leslie, Michigan, the youngest of the 11 Hunter sisters. The girls were adopted into several different families, with Charlene going to Charles and Jean Walker when she was just 2 and a half years old. She later reconnected with her living siblings when she was in her mid-50's. Charlene is survived by one sister, Lois Ritzema.

She graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1947 and worked various jobs until coming to know Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in her early mid-twenties. Soon after, she attended Eastern Bible Institute, now the University of Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. She graduated with a 3-year diploma in 1957. Charlene worked for the State of Michigan, retiring from the Department of Transportation in 1991.

Over the years, Charlene served in countless ministries, including helping her dear friend Helen Chaffee plant the Assembly of God church in Holt in 1972. She was also a lay chaplain for Forgotten Man Ministry at the Ingham County Jail, where she led weekly Bible studies and services. Closer to home, she served as a church greeter and in visitation ministries of all kinds, went on multiple missions' trips, and was a powerful intercessor.

Charlene built a family around her throughout her life. She was a friend, mentor, sister, aunt, and grandma to many generations. Her years of influence at area churches will continue in the many lives she impacted with her positive attitude, unfailing sense of humor, consistent generosity, and genuine love for all. All who loved her are especially grateful to her caregivers at Dobie Road, where Charlene lived and continue to minister during her last years.

A Celebration of Life memorial service for Charlene will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025, at New Life Assembly of God, 400 W. South St., Grand Ledge, MI 48837 at 2:00 PM, followed by refreshments.
